There was a big police/SWAT standoff this morning in North Austin, and it's all over the news. The thing that really shocked me is this: Austin Police carry semi-automatic weapons.
Yeah.
Texas.
Or maybe I'm naive and all urban police carry semi-automatic weapons?

um. yeah. all SWAT teams carry semi and full auto weapons. Special Weapons and Assault Team, SWAT.
It's kind of weird, police carrying military style weapons and all, but considering what the criminals are carrying these days, not entirely unrealistic.
Let me put it this way... if I were a cop, regularly involved in dangerous situations, I would carry the biggest, most bad-ass firearm available and wear as much body armor as I could without falling over... but that's me and I'm a little paranoid :)
Yeah, SWAT teams carry semi-automatic weapons, but regular police? It's just regular police here who carry them.
